Professional & Scientific
Required Minimum Quals:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and related experience totaling 6 years.
Bachelors in Civil Engineering or related field
Education and/or work experience with an emphasis on transportation engineering, data collection tools and technologies.
Experience in GIS and Statistics. Experience in coding such as Python.

The Institute for Transportation (InTrans) is a greater than $17 million research organization at Iowa State University which includes seven centers and seven programs. InTrans conducts transportation-related research and outreach, and addresses the education and workforce development needs of future transportation professionals. The Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE) at InTrans has an immediate need for an Engineer Designer II.
This position supports the management of Roadway Infrastructure Management Operations System (RIMOS) infrastructure management research program. This person will conduct moderately complex investigations related to transportation research with an emphasis on asset management and safety research, perform field data collection, perform specialized non-standard procedures which require interpretation of technical data, write research summaries, help develop research reports and technical articles for peer reviewed publications, and recommend courses of action for the research tasks.
This individual will support Asset Management research, as well as other research under the infrastructure management area. This person must be knowledgeable in transportation engineering, statistics, pavement condition data collection, and data collection technology. The successful candidate will possess strong work ethic and the ability to do independent research. The successful candidate will be self-guided, inquisitive, possess a “can-do” attitude, and have a demonstrated desire to succeed.
This position is initially on a 1-year term with potential for continued renewal for additional 3-year terms based on satisfactory performance and funding availability.
