1st Detect, a fast-growing spin-off company developing next-generation, miniaturized chemical detectors (mass spectrometers) is seeking a Chemistry Manager specializing in mass spectrometry instrumentation. The manager will support the development and implementation of new technologies for 1st Detect’s mass spectrometer-based product line. The manager will also work with the SW, ME and EE teams to help develop and refine the instrument.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

o MS/ PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or related field and 8 years of industrial experience

o 5+ years technical experience as a Senior Developer in the mass spectrometry field

o Experience designing and troubleshooting mass spectrometers and/or vacuum instrumentation

o Proven track record of analytical and problem solving skills

Principle Responsibilities will be:

o Chemistry department management provides project planning, resource planning, budget generation and performance to budget, perform department performance reviews and status tracking

o Preference will be given to candidates that have worked with, designed, and / or built chemical detection instruments, in particular: miniature, portable, or ruggedized field instruments

o Provide technical leadership for instrumentation design and application development

o Documentation of development efforts in the form of Design proposals, system requirements, application notes and technical presentations

o Provide technical customer support for 1st Detect’s mass spectrometer based product line

o Support manufacturing and engineering teams by performing system level functional testing of miniature mass spectrometer instruments

o Collaboration with engineers to improve instrument design and increase functionality

o Test data collection, processing, interpretation, and documentation

Desirable Experience:

o Project planning, resource management, budgeting and personal management skills

o Experience in the Explosive Trace Detection field (TSA, ECAC), Narcotics detection field

o Design, maintenance, and operation of mass spectrometry instrumentation

o Design, maintenance, and operation of high vacuum instrumentation

o Experiment design, test plan generation

o Ion trajectory simulation (e.g. Simion)

o Engineering or software education or experience would be a plus

o Preference will be given to candidates with active security clearance must be able to obtain and hold a clear
