POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title : Cell Modeling and Analysis Engineer
Reports To : Director of Cell Modeling & Characterization
Classification : Exempt
Status : Regular, Full-time
Location : Auburn Hills , MI

Job Description
The position of Cell Modeling Engineer will support research, development, and validation of lithium ion cells and battery systems through testing, modeling, simulation, and analysis. The Cell Modeling Engineer will also perform lab experiments and studies to characterize and improve lithium ion cell performance and safety.

Primary Responsibilities:
Model power and energy of lithium ion cells cells of different designs and materials
Acquire, process , and analyze experimental data to determine cell electrochemical performance and thermal behavior
Assist in the development of equivalent circuit models for lithium ion cells and battery packs and use them to simulate in field operation
Assist in development and simulation of electrochemical models of lithium ion cells and electrodes to better understand physical and electrochemical phenomenon
Process experimental data for the development and characterization of lithium ion cells and battery packs
Support sales, systems, and engineering teams with simulation and analysis of XALT’s products
Design and perform experiments to determine cell level mechanical and thermal properties
Perform abuse and safety testing
Assist in creating and supporting documentation of XALT Energy products for its internal use and its customers

Position Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering or Physics
Experience with electrochemical modeling of lithium ion batteries, fuel cells, capacitors, or similar energy storage systems
Strong communication skills, verbal and written
Strong analytical skills
Proficient with MATLAB/Simulink software suite
Experience with COMSOL, Battery Design Studio, Ansys/Fluent, AutoLion or other software tools for modeling lithium ion batteries

Key Competencies:
Ability to troubleshoot wide variety of interesting and complex problems
Works independently and overcomes obstacles to achieve results
Has basic understanding of analog electrical circuits and power electronics
Has basic understanding of battery pack design and electric vehicle architecture
Committed to continuous learning and self-improvement
