ORBIS, Inc., an innovative engineering solutions company, is seeking skilled and motivated Senior System Safety Engineer candidates to provide support for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport, RI.
The candidate will conduct software safety analysis tasks in accordance with ADs and Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook. The Contractor shall perform software safety assessments to determine the criticality of each Computer Software Conﬁguration Item (CSCI). The candidate will make a determination of the Software Control Categories (SCC). Software safety analyses includes Software Requirements Hazard Analysis (SRHA), Top Level Design Hazard Analysis (TDHA), Detailed Design Hazard Analysis (DDHA), Code Level Hazard Analysis (CLHA), Software Testing Assessment, Software/User Interface Analysis, and/or Software Change Hazard Analysis (SCHA). The candidate will perform ﬁrmware safety analysis tasks, including ﬁrmware safety assessments to determine the criticality of each Program Logic Device/Field Programmable Gate Array (PLD/FPGA).
Conducts system safety engineering of on-shore or shipboard systems, subsystems and individual components for the respective systems safety program. Performs system safety analyses of hardware and software in a variety of systems including weapons defense and combat systems. Utilizes technical and safety review and documentation analysis techniques to include fault tree analyses, failure modes and hazardous effects analyses, inadvertent launch analyses, and other techniques as required. Duties include preparing and/or updating safety assessment reports and risk assessment reports. Reviewing and analyzing system safety management and program plans, safety analyses, accident and incident data, mishap investigation reports, safety test plans and results, and other ESOH related data. Preparing risk assessment reports, safety assessment reports, and technical data packages and presentation materials for safety review boards. Conducting or review safety assessment of new, updated, and/or modified hardware and software, waivers, and exemption requests. Performing operational analyses and studies to identify potential deficiencies in weapon operating procedures, ordnance handling procedures, stowage or other logistics phases involving ordnance, safety procedures, etc. and making specific recommendations for their resolution. May also perform environmental safety assessments on weapons and related systems.
Systems safety analysis of hardware and software of existing designs for on-shore or shipboard systems, subsystems and individual components.
Prepare/update Safety Assessment Reports.
Prepare/review/update Technical Data Packages and Presentation Materials in support of Safety Review Board Reviews including the Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB) and Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP).
Review System Requirements documentation to identify potential hazardous conditions and make recommendations to system design in collaboration with program staff.
Perform operational analysis to identify potential deficiencies in operating procedures, training documentation, maintenance procedures, storage and handling procedures, and/or ordnance handling procedures.
Make recommendations to resolve deficiencies.
Review and make recommendations to test plans to ensure safety requirements are met.
Assess Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other system change requests to identify/verify safety risks.
Collaborate with government vendors during the development of weapons systems.
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and five (5) years or more experience.
Experience conducting System Engineering Analysis, System Safety Analysis, Risk Management and/or Hazard Analysis
Experience with MIL-STD 882E
Experience working with US Navy or US Marine Corps combat systems or platforms
Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or analyzing weapons systems or complex mechanical or software systems
Systems Safety Engineering experience with US Navy or US Marine Corps weapons systems
Experience preparing technical reports
Must be a US Citizen with Secret Security Clearance
