You will serve as an INTERDISCIPLINARY MECHANICAL ENGINEER/ELECTRICAL ENGINEER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by any of the following series: 0830 Mechanical Engineering/0850 Electrical Engineering.
You will conduct engineering evaluations to determine conditions of existing facilities and associated systems (e.g., heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration [HVAC]).
You will observe mechanical equipment operations to ensure that equipment is being operated properly.
You will review work specifications or drawings to ensure work scope meets intent of required maintenance actions.
You will collaborate with managers and decision makers to solve discrepancies impacting maintenance project operations.
You will estimate requirement changes for equipment and utilities as a result of new equipment needs, construction projects, and renovation and improvement projects.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

For the GS-12 Level, in addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Work is usually performed in an office setting, although there may be occasional exposure to conditions in industrial type facilities during on-site visits. Such assignments typically do not exceed two weeks in length.
