Job Description :
ORPC seeks a candidate with expertise in mechanical engineering to work on the cutting-edge design of marine hydrokinetic power systems. The candidate will primarily be focused on the design of the mechanical systems for ORPC’s power systems.
The candidate is a motivated self-starter who works well in an international team environment and is willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate collaboration with a global engineering and operations team. Besides technical excellence, an ambitious and eager attitude towards innovation is fundamental. The ability to work independently, and to have excellent communications skills, both oral and written, are expected. Some degree of project engineering and management will be required.
Key technical areas include structural and dynamic modeling; design and analysis of control systems; hydrodynamic research; and naval architecture.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 2–5 years of industrial or academic research experience in a field relevant to the design of systems, or an advanced degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Essential Experience/Qualifications :
Special consideration will be given for candidates with at least 2 years of experience with analysis of marine or offshore systems.
Preferred software skills: Proteus, Solidworks, ANSA, Z88,
Preferred programming skills: Python, LINUX
Experience leading small to moderate sized projects for engineering, design, and testing.
Experience in structural analysis.
Composite design experience an advantage.
Ability to write technical proposals and reports in English is required. Spanish and/or French language skills are of benefit.
Job Responsibilities :
The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary and cooperative team in Europe and North America, and will be expected to:
Provide mechanical engineering and design services for ORPC.
Provide modelling, design, and analysis of ORPC mooring, installation, and retrieval systems.
Execute system engineering methodologies to optimize reliability, safety, and system performance.
Provide key inputs to inform the engineering, project development, site assessment, environmental permitting, and licensing functions of ORPC.
Demonstrate engineering expertise in creative thinking to lead to innovative designs.
Work as part of international team, with some work required outside of normal business hours to accommodate time differences.
Field work, including work on marine vessels, may be required which may involve physical labor. Hands on mechanical/electrical/instrumentation skills are desirable.
