We are seeing a full-time Marine Boat Testing Technician at our Newport, Oregon office. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, configuring, and operating boats for testing products as well as assisting engineers with product R&D, training and other purposes. Other essential functions include:
Ensure the safe and efficient transportation and operation of small boats
Monitor the working environment and actions of all crew members while working in the field and act as necessary to ensure their safety and to protect field equipment in support of engineering, sales, and marketing teams
Install, operate and troubleshoot electronics spanning the whole Garmin marine product line.
Conduct tests and work with project teams to verify and improve quality on Garmin hardware and software solutions.
Understand all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations and ensure they are followed
Understand all applicable Garmin procedures and ensure they are followed
Perform or supervise regular inspection and maintenance tasks on equipment in the field, and recommend equipment purchase and upgrades as needed.
Maintain required records and logs as dictated by Garmin procedures
Qualified candidates possess a High School Diploma or GED. Other requirements include:
Must possess a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the operation and trailering of boats up to 30 feet in length.
Must possess a minimum of 2 years’ previous work experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps, generators, engines, marine electronics, tow vehicles, and trailers.
Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems commonly found on boats up to 30 feet in length.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Must possess strong troubleshooting skills
Must demonstrate ability and/or previous experience working in the field without direct supervision
Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
Must possess the ability to bend, twist and lift up to 50 pounds while using safe lifting techniques and standing for an entire shift.
Must be able to work on all areas of our boats (at least one requires squeezing into a small compartment), be able to walk and work on a pitching boat deck for sometimes long days
