Senior Hydraulic Engineer
Alden Research Laboratory is a recognized leader in the field of fluid dynamics engineering, consulting, research and development. Founded in 1894, Alden is headquartered in Holden, MA, with hydraulic modeling laboratories in Holden, MA and Everett, WA, and offices in Portland, OR; Fort Collins, CO; and Littleton, CO. The hydraulic modeling group uses reduced-scale physical model testing and computational fluid dynamics to solve a wide range of flow-related civil and mechanical engineering problems.
General Position Description
Alden’s hydraulic modeling group is seeking a senior hydraulic engineer for its Everett, WA office with a minimum of 10 years of experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and its application in water resources engineering including open channel flow, closed conduit flow, river mechanics, spillways, fish passage, pump stations and other civil hydraulic structures. The candidate must have strong leadership qualities and be comfortable working independently or as part of a team. The position will provide an opportunity to grow the hydraulic modeling practice in the Everett, WA office.
Day-to-day responsibilities for the position will include meeting/speaking with prospective clients to learn their needs and develop business opportunities; management and execution of modeling projects from start to finish (development of technical approaches and costing, model set up, grid generation, simulations, analysis of data, interpretation of results, hydraulic design); technical writing (proposals, memos, reports, presentations, conference papers); mentoring junior engineers; and attendance of industry conferences and trade shows.
The preferred candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Hydraulic, Civil, or Environmental Engineering
Professional Engineering license or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months
Proficiency using commercial software: FLOW-3D, STAR-CCM+, Fluent, Rhino, Tecplot, and CAD
Experience working as a consultant for both private and public sector clients in the field of civil hydraulic engineering
Fiscal and technical project management experience
A desire to network within the engineering community via technical publications, oral presentations, etc. to develop new business opportunities
Supervisory experience or an interest in mentoring junior engineers
US citizenship or permanent residence status is required.
