We are looking for an experienced, talented, and motivated Engineering Manager to lead a small, distributed, skilled, results-oriented, cross-functional team of software product engineering professionals. As an Engineering Manager you must be a proven technical leader who can build, lead and motivate software teams. You will partner with Product Management to create compelling customer driven features while building and maintaining a scalable, evolvable, performant codebase. You will have a continuous improvement mentality and always be on the lookout for ways to make things better across the company and within your own scope of responsibility
Responsibilities and Deliverables
Lead a small distributed, agile team developing web apps, libraries and frameworks, and RESTful microservices.
Participate in building the team through effective recruiting, retention, and
Lead the team in working in an agile project management framework and our software development methodology. Work closely with upper management and the Engineering Leadership Team in defining the details of our agile implementation and our software development methodology.
Set performance expectations for individual team members and monitor their success in meeting these goals.
Build and promote a work environment that is highly collaborative and team-centric.
Enhance, refactor, and continuously improve the codebase.
Keep management informed of project progress and problems, particularly as to needed changes in schedule, resources, or product scope.
Participate as a member of the Engineering Leadership Team, and the Software Architecture Review Board.
Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical people.
Solve business needs with short-term deliverables, while constantly improving and moving towards long-term architectural goals. As the Engineering Manager, you’ll have responsibility for the overall architecture of the system.
Generate new ideas, never say or think "that's not my job."
Be proactive in keeping your skills fresh.
Qualifications and Experience
5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams with multiple direct reports, preferably in a variety of disciplines, building distributed systems.
5+ years of experience as a hands-on software engineer.
A solid Ops foundation – you are always thinking, “what happens if this fails?”
Experience working in an iterative-based development environment using Agile/Scrum/Kanban.
An appreciation for pragmatism and simplicity in software architecture.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant certifications are a plus.
Logical reasoning and cognitive ability required.
Ability to effectively assess and manage risk.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and effectively manage time

Education and Training
Formal education in Computer Science or a related field is highly desired. BS in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or equivalent, or a Bachelor’s in an unrelated field with at least 5 years of relevant experience. A relevant Master's degree is a plus.
AWS certifications are a plus.
Certified Scrum Master is a plus.
