Job Description Summary
The Nuclear Field Engineering Program is a training and leadership development program committed to growing GE Hitachi's entry level, high potential talent by accelerating their career through hands-on technical training and a variety of business-critical assignments. This program prepares the candidate to become a Field Service Engineer who will provide over-all technical and leadership support for the successful execution of complex projects and activities involving BWR & PWR reactor disassembly, re-assembly, inspections, modifications, fuel movement, and in-core maintenance at customer owned nuclear power plants.
This opportunity begins with a 12-month training program that establishes business and technical skills for engineers to operate confidently and independently as Field Engineers for GE Hitachi Nuclear. GE Hitachi Field Services performs maintenance and inspections on commercial nuclear reactors worldwide.
Training includes classroom training at the GE Hitachi Services Training Facilities in Wilmington, NC and San Jose, CA. This training is followed by individualized experience-gaining assignments in field locations.
Post training responsibilities include project proposing, planning, scheduling, cost estimating, process development, team training, and on-site delivery of Nuclear Services projects including integration and coordination of project work with other GE and Customer teams.
Perform on-site reactor services of systems and equipment and ongoing preventive maintenance and repair after installation.
Develop and further expand technical knowledge and expertise on BWR & PWR industry standards.
Perform administrative functions; such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, reports to customers, time sheet and expense reports on a complete timely, and thorough basis.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs from work orders and procedures that are assigned.
Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards.
Bachelors degree in an engineering or technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Ability to climb 10 flights of stairs twice per day
Ability to pass respirator fit test and physical
Ability to pass Fitness For Duty requirements and site security requirements to obtain unescorted access
Ability to work under high stress conditions
Ability and willingness to work in radiation controlled areas and radioactively contaminated areas
Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% to domestically and internationally plant sites
Ability and willingness to work 12 hours/day and 7 days/week when needed for project delivery
Basic mechanical aptitude is required. Must be able to read and understand equipment manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Nuclear Engineering
Strong business acumen and ability to market GE products to the customer
