Description of Job
This PE II position will be the Design Engineer for the Design Unit/Residency. This position will assure that the design of projects are in accordance with State and Federal guidelines, policies, and procedures. The Design Engineer will provide engineering expertise and training, monitor and approve expenditures to ensure that they are within approved budgets; make work assignments and monitoring schedules to ensure that established deadlines are met.
This position has fundamental supervisory and engineering oversight and will prepare performance and employee development plans, evaluate employees' performance; and interview and hire full-time and temporary employees
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure unit objectives are communicated and appropriate progress is maintained; develop/formulate guidelines and work procedures and establish priorities to achieve these work goals;
Oversee region-wide rotational training program for EITs and new Engineers;
Interview and select new employees, resolve informal grievances, and recommend corrective and disciplinary actions;
Serve on consultant selection boards; and review and rate Statements of Interest and Work Plans submitted by consultants and make recommendation for selection;
Monitor the financial status of all design and other transportation projects assigned to and administered by the work unit to insure that projected costs are within the approved budgets;
Represent the Department in dealings with the public, other governmental agencies, contractors, consultants, the media, developers, business owners, and other entities;
Other job duties as assigned.
Primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday
Travel required during work hours throughout the Region
Occasional overnight travel 1-3 times a year throughout Colorado
Required to operate CDOT vehicles

Current registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers, and Professional Land Surveyors.
AND at least two years of full-time licensed professional civil engineering experience.
A current valid driver's license is required for this position as it requires operating a state or personal motor vehicle to perform one or more essential functions of the position.
