Who we are looking for:
We are looking for a Staff Engineer (CMT) with Project Management responsibilities in our Roanoke, VA office! As a Staff Engineer, you’ll be managing multiple construction projects providing construction materials testing and special inspection services. You will be responsible for coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, special inspectors, and sub-consultants to deliver results that ensure our goal of exceeding our clients’ expectations on every project. This position also included field work related to performing the required inspection and testing, assisting other staff and technicians, attending project meetings, performing evaluations of field personnel and other related activities.
What you’ll be doing:
Including, but not limited to:
Project management of construction materials testing and special inspection projects addressing such aspects as deep foundation, foundation, soils, reinforcing steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, structural steel, wood, asphalt, EIFS, floor flatness and levelness testing, etc.
Analyzing reports, maps, drawings, specifications, and other project data
Coordinating or directing project budgets, record keeping, materials testing, and inspections
Coordinating with contractors
Supervising and directing engineering technicians, special inspectors and subcontractor
Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria during the performance of engineering services
Work with a staff of engineers, technicians, and admin personnel to provide service
Satisfy multiple and unrelated deadlines
Authorizing and/or reviewing technical reports and letters
Work will also include performing field testing and site visits
Field work will include testing and inspecting soil, concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials at locations across our service area
What you need to have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technologies, or a related field
Some experience in construction materials inspection and testing is a bonus
I.T. registration or ability to achieve with 1 year is required
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent people and customer service skills
Ability to work in an independent or team environment
Ability to be self-motivated and performance driven
Highly organized individual
Valid driver’s license with good-standing driving record
Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
