Position Summary: Develop methodologies for the testing of structural materials under a variety of test conditions/environments. Apply design and stress analysis skills to the construction of fixtures, specimens, and test systems. Integrate and calibrate physical sensors such as force, displacement, and temperature sensors into mechanical testing setups and data acquisition systems. Collect and analyze data from test projects and communicate test results in the form of oral and written reports. Serve as mentor to technical staff.
BS in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering
Minimum one year of mechanical testing experience using commercial test equipment
Experience in 2D/3D design and modeling software (Solidworks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, etc)
Use and configuration of test machine control and data acquisition software.
Well versed in MS Office software
Well versed in standard engineering software (LabView, Matlab, etc)
Good written communication skills
Must be a U.S. citizen
Must be able to obtain Secret level Security Clearance
Direct experience in mechanical testing in a fast paced/ failure analysis support environment
Operating and programming of MTS/Instron mechanical test equipment
Setup and calibration of strain gages and standard test instrumentation (LVDTs, extensometers, load cells, etc)
Setup, calibration and use of 3D image correlation strain measurement systems (ARAMIS, Dantec, Correlated Solutions, etc).
Mechanical testing of aerospace/automotive materials.
Experience in the use of and knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
Demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
Mechanical Design with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience.
Familiarity with laboratory logistics.
Understanding of basic AC and DC circuits.
Good interpersonal and communication skills with peers, technicians, and customers.
