Boeing is seeking an Engineer/Physicist to join the STI Capability as an IR signature engineer in St. Louis. This individual will participate in multi-discipline detailed trade studies and optimizations on complex air vehicle configurations. The individual will be responsible for configuration development, high fidelity analysis, development of test models, and test validation of concepts. This position offers the opportunity to both lead and work with more experienced team members to accomplish the responsibilities and tasks as listed above and develop the skills to perform these tasks independently.
Assists in developing and validating requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components.
Assists in the development and validation of electromagnetic requirements for electrical\electronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures.
Assists in developing architectures to integrate components into higher level systems and platforms.
Performs trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analysis to predict component and interconnects performance and to optimize design around established requirements.
Defines and conducts simple tests to validate performance of designs to requirements.
Collects and analyzes data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements.
Provides support to products throughout their lifecycle from manufacturing to customer use by recommending engineering solutions to issues.
Supports project management by preparing and presenting project status data.
Writes simple sections of proposals to support development of new business.
Works under general supervision.
This individual must have experience in applied optical physics and/or environmental physics as well as skills in thermodynamics or radioactive transport or optical materials. This individual should have experience in modern computing hardware and operating systems, and programming languages.
The individual should be highly motivated to provide high quality engineering analysis to both internal and external customers and must have the ability to work well in a fast-paced multi-discipline team environment. Additionally, the individual should be able to generate sections of or entire proposals and should have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written formats and present technical briefings to communicate plans, status, and technical results to internal and external customers while working in a team environment.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.

Basic/Required Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Moderate proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Previous design or project team participation and leadership is highly desired.
Prior experience in optical characterization of materials, infrared laboratory measurements, field measurement experience and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software is a plus.
Knowledge of applied optical physics and environmental physics (e.g., propagation, attenuation, absorption, performance factors, electromagnetic field theory, polarization) and their effects across the spectrum.
Knowledge of infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high energy laser, optics systems design methods (e.g., optical, opto-mechanical, supportability, life-cycle) for communications, measurements, surveillance, tactical, strategic, and weapons applications (e.g., component, unit, subsystem, system, algorithm, software design, low observables).
Knowledge of infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high energy laser, and optics technology.
Knowledge of infrared/electro-optical (IR/EO), visible, ultraviolet (UV), photonics, fiber, high energy laser, and optics unit test, sub-system test, system test, installation test, performance test, operational test, built-in test, quality test, and acceptance test procedures.
Skill and ability to: collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
