The Process Engineer is responsible for managing the production activities to maximize asset utilization while constantly improving safety, quality and productivity standards. This role manages, schedules and directs activities of plant operators to meet or exceed all customer requirements in a timely manner. This role is also responsible for managing minor and major capital and improvement projects to meet site objectives. This role functions as the liaison with Research and Development group, and helps lead and support efforts to develop new or improved processes or products for the site. Responsible for striving to develop methods or products to generate new products, increase sales or reduce manufacturing costs. This role drives plant WCM efforts to continually improve plant operations and performance, with an ultimate goal of Bronze certification. This role will be responsible for devising and implementing any process or procedural projects to assure production efficiency is continually improved.
Manage activities on the production floor to maximize resource utilization, while achieving safety, delivery and quality requirements. This will include directing operations personnel to meet production plans and targets. On a daily basis, eliminate any production constraints, producing quality products. Maximize operations and staff job results by coaching and counseling employees; planning, monitoring and appraising job results. Develop the skills and abilities of all operations department personnel through specialized training, outside seminars and selected coursework at local schools and institutions. Manage operator training efforts with the assistance of the Quality Technician, with the ultimate goal of full cross-training of all operators.
Identify, define and manage major and minor engineering projects when appropriate, from cost estimation through project implementation and startup.
Assure that company safety policies are followed and reinforced. Assure compliance with all ISO policies and assist in their continual improvement. Assist in the development of the WCM program. Work will be in conjunction with the Quality Technician.
Coordinate site R&D activities to develop or improve products and processes. Responsible for scheduling and executing trials, preparing reports, assisting in R&D planning and activities.
Assist in keeping operating costs at or below budget. Evaluate and select vendors and suppliers and manage purchasing activities as directed. Continually re-evaluate suppliers to drive down operating costs.
Collect and analyze production data (metrics) to support and justify project implementation. Provide feedback and guidance to management on required data and assist in its collection and interpretation. Determine key process parameters and develop methods and procedures to capture, analyze, disseminate and react to the information. Manage multiple aspects of the plant MRP system (Exact). This includes entry of manufacturing orders.
Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Discipline
5+ years of relevant experience in a production or manufacturing environment
Knowledge of statistical methods and tools, physical analysis methods, production methods, process standards and quality standards
Strong analytical work methodology and problem solving skills and demonstrated systematic approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
Solid computer skills, specifically Microsoft Office
Strong project management skills
Training or experience in quality principles (Lean/Six Sigma)
