The Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer is a leader in Production Excellence, continuous improvement and technical improvement including sustainment for the Soy Protein Facility as well as a key collaborator with Regional and Global Manufacturing Technology Teams. As part of a cross functional team including R&D, QA, Operations, Product Line Management, MT, and Strategic Sourcing, this role will also deliver on business strategy and optimization projects. This position is to be located at the Cedar Rapids Soy Protein Facility. As a Manufacturing Technology and Production Excellence expert, the Senior MT engineer will guide:

40% Technology Performance - Optimize: Optimize current operations by leading efforts to identify value creation opportunities. Take action(s) to drive implementation of value creation initiatives through the Accelerated Continuous Improvement system at the site. Develop and manage site value creation portfolio. Champion the use of continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making tools. Lead the sites in monitoring performance of process metrics and leading indicators including value delivery vs. forecast. Drive opportunity capture through analysis of key performance indicators, manufacturing cost reports, and stable operations activities to create year on year sustained value through Operational Excellence.
20% Talent Development and MT Education: Develop Operational Excellence and technical process knowledge Capabilities at the facilities. Lead the process of documenting, transferring, and training employees on technical knowledge, including implementation of standards that govern operations of the facility. Provide coaching and mentorship from a technical and Manufacturing Technology and Production Excellence work process perspective and provide leadership in identifying, developing, and retaining a talent pipeline for technical and operations positions.
20% Technology Performance - Sustain: Provide complex technical troubleshooting support as needed in operations, including participation in Root Cause Analysis and 5 Why activities where technical support is needed or as a facilitator of Production Excellence. Development of CMOs including mandates, standards and best practices for design, process specifications and operations of vegetable protein technology in the region. Lead efforts in auditing the operation against standards on a regular basis and provide feedback to the Regional and Global Manufacturing Technology group on additions or modifications needed to standards to continually improve the content. Monitor and lead execution on action items from Key Performance Indicator and Manufacturing Technology Performance Metrics monitoring to insure peak performance.
10% MT Design and Capability: Support and enable continuous improvement of process safety. Provide technical leadership in the application of the Process Safety Risk Management (PSRM) program, including assembly of Process Safety Information, participation in Process Risk Assessments, identification of mitigating actions to close gaps identified in Risk Assessments, and providing technical leadership to the closure of gaps.
10% Innovation Implementation: Provide technical leadership in piloting and implementation of technologies to drive additional value and/or enable new business opportunities. Partner with Regional Global MT to identify and develop new technologies and processes as needed to support the Vegetable Protein Technology. This responsibility will also include participation in project justification and gate reviews, preliminary design activities, interaction with the capital effectiveness team in validating the detailed design and providing technical oversight during installation and start-up activities.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor (or Graduate) Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biosystems Engineering or other technical discipline that has a strong foundation in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass/material balance and process design
5 years production, engineering, and/or process engineering experience
Six Sigma Green Belt certification or willingness to complete Green Belt certification by December 2020.
Willingness to complete Black Belt certification by June 2023
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage change through influence

Preferred
8 years of production, engineering, and/or process engineering experience
Trained in statistical tools
Demonstrated experience with soy protein technologies and processes
Cross-functional experience in areas such as project engineering, operations supervision, continuous improvement, or maintenance and reliability
Demonstrated experience with assessing process risk and implementation of safeguards
Six Sigma Black Belt qualification
Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and/or databases and competency in process modeling tools
Demonstrated experience in using process data to identify and execute on value generation opportunities
Understanding of process modeling tools and when to apply
Demonstrated competencies in food safety, Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, and Process Risk Analysis
Demonstrated project management skills and ability to execute on capital projects or demonstrated ability in working as a key member of a project team
