The Madison or Milwaukee office of SmithGroup is looking for a Senior Coastal Engineer to join our team.
Working with us, you will:
Serve as project Civil/Coastal engineer ensuring that the technical aspects of the project meet quality expectations while complementing the design intent. Collaborate with other engineers, landscape architects and urban design professionals as well as architects and building engineers.
Serve as Project Manager on assigned projects.
Produce Civil/Coastal engineering designs for shoreline protection and restoration projects; marinas, harbors, and breakwaters; navigation works; piers and berthing facilities; and other waterfront improvements.
Perform site reviews, construction site visits, coordinate all aspects of Construction Administration.
Communicate with clients, sub-consultants, contractors, all government levels of regulatory agencies regarding engineering, permitting, and site development issues.
Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
Participate in the recruitment and interviewing process as requested.
An ideal candidate has:
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent with relevant coursework in hydraulics, wave mechanics, coastal processes or naval architecture; master’s degree preferred in coastal engineering, ocean engineering, or marine oriented structural or foundation engineering.
10 or more years of relevant design experience working as a Civil/Coastal Engineer.
Minimum of 5years of professional experience performing 2D or 3D numerical modeling of coastal and river hydraulics, sediment transport and shoreline morphology, ocean/lake waves and currents, wave transformation analysis, and using physical hydraulic models.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in the preparation of design and engineering documents through all phases of project development (master planning, schematic design, design development, and contract documents).
Field experience leading and/or supporting contract administration associated with construction of coastal improvements.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration or ability to obtain within 6 months.
Experienced in data analysis and related software (e.g. Excel, Matlab, Python)
High proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcMap GIS is preferred.
Experienced with 2D or 3D hydrodynamic circulation and wave models such as DHI MIKE modeling suite (preferred), SMS modeling suite, LITPACK, MOHID Studio, DELFT 3D, SWAN, WAVEWATCHIII, or similar.
Proficiency in modeling littoral processes, wave transformation, and harbor hydrodynamics.
Ability to multi-task under rigid deadlines.
Ability to travel and work remotely for short periods of time.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as these are essential as is the ability to work with clients and colleagues at all levels.
