Job Title: Battery Engineer
Demonstrated, through literature and patents, experience in development of “Beyond-Lithium Ion Battery” energy storage technologies. Experience in materials discovery, design and structure-property relationships, and synthesis at-scale as relevant to various cell architectures and advanced energy storage materials. Strong Electrochemistry background and demonstrated success in materials-by-design methodology approaches would be quite useful.
Primary responsibility is to support the fundamental research and pre-development programs internal to the company that are essential to continued growth with our external partners.
Participate as an individual contributor and as a team member in system architecture refinement. Work as a part of R&D team with an open mind to new ideas in a fast-paced startup environment. Contribute as a technology leader to design of materials and to development of synthesis process for applications in the assigned direction.
Create IP and contribute to creation of portfolio of ideas and proof of concept (POC) demonstration of the novel technology in the Energy Storage space.
Engage hands-on in cell, battery, storage system development: develop novel active materials, establish electrode formulation, lead electrolyte development, architect battery construction and engage in testing. Understand and document lab-scale processing and work with the team to characterize materials and evaluate system failure mechanisms, to develop reliability models and life-prediction models for novel cell and materials platforms.
Maintain 5S: clean, safe, and organized working environments.
Sound understanding of electrochemical processes in Lithium Ion Battery concepts, experience with next generation LIB, experience with Beyond-Lithium Technologies and familiarity with existing the battery design and manufacturing processes, standardized reliability and test methodologies.
Bachelors in Electro-Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or Chemistry with emphasis on LIB, Beyond Lithium, and Fuel Cell.
Individual Contributor with at least seven (3+) years of post-graduation work experience with these novels systems in a National Laboratory or preferably in an industrial setting;
Familiar with various mass production ready materials deposition approaches, or with Electrochemical deposition, and familiar with Battery Test systems; capable in MATLAB, Python, R, and/or similar data analysis tools.
