South Burlington School DistrictPosition DescriptionJob Title: Information Technology Systems EngineerLocation: Information TechnologyJob Group: Support Staff, Non UnionPay Level: Exempt, Grade 11Reports To: Information Technology Systems DirectorSummary: Responsible for the support of district computers, network infrastructure, network software, and for thecoordination of technological applications in the administrative operations of the district. Assists in thedevelopment, implementation, and evaluation of a long-range plan for the application of computers and technologyin all district programs, instruction, and administrative work. This position assists with maintaining, supporting, anddeveloping the server core and the overall district network design and implementation.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Serves as a systems engineer and manages assigned day-to-day responsibilities and special projectsassociated with the districts network infrastructure, software, computers, and technological applications.a.
Actively participates in the IT teams overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all network services,projects, and responsibilities.b. Collaborates with the network team to develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan and the daily backupsolution for all of the District servers and file storage.c. Cooperates with team members to manage and maintain the district firewall, and internet connectivity.d. Recommends changes to improve computer and network-operating efficiency regularly.e.
Reviews district hardware/software requests and recommends appropriate purchases as needed to LeadNetwork Engineer and/or IT Systems Director.f. Provide engineering leadership toward district technology initiatives including related purchases andplanning.g. Assists in maintaining a comprehensive schedule of work to be done on a daily, weekly, monthly, andyearly basis.2. Responsible for providing technology services such as, but not limited to: a.
Managing network communications (e.g., AD, LDAP, DNS).b. Maintaining and troubleshooting the districts wireless infrastructure and software system.c. Installing, configuring, and maintaining network switch infrastructure.d. Managing and maintaining the district VMWare virtual server infrastructure and VMWare Horizon clientsoftware.e.
Installing, managing, and maintaining district network storage solutions (e.g. Windows file server, SAN, NAS).f. Ensuring proper licensure of software programs and server licenses.g. Monitoring and keeping the IT Systems Director informed of evolving technologies and their implicationsand costs.h.
Installing and configuring network software applications as needed.i. Installing and maintaining network monitoring solutions such as PRTG software and DUO Multifactor Authsoftware.j. Working with the Lead Systems Engineer and the IT Director on developing, and implementing newsecurity strategies to secure the network infrastructure and users.k. Managing the development and maintenance of management scripts (e.g.
Powershell).l. Creating and automating new user accounts on the network.m. Troubleshooting and assisting district users in problem resolution with technology and computers;supporting walk-in users and help desk (phone support).n. Participating and working with the IT Departments student independent study program and initiatives, asneeded.4.
Remains current on career-related subject matter by: a. Attending professional meetings and conferences related to information technology, curriculum integration,and related subject matter.b. Reading professional literature and other sources to maintain a high level of expertise in technologyintegration.c. Researching emerging technology and integration of such (e.g., hardware, software, and peripherals) andrecommends applications, enhancements, and solutions.d.
Remaining current with district hardware and software in use including, but not limited to: NEO, Chromebooks, and Microsoft products.e. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate a high aptitude for technology systemsmanagement in a multi-site, team-oriented environment.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: MCSE, RHCE, CCNA, VCP, or equivalent licensures/experiencepreferred.Language Skills: Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to read,analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmentalregulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively presentinformation and respond to questions from individuals and groups.Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic to advanced mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication to probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry andtrigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practicalsituations.Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability tointerpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with severalabstract and concrete variables.Other Skills and Abilities: Experience with network management platforms (e.g., Cacti, Nagios). Ability to applyknowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with students, staff, and the school community.
Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and School Board policies.
