This leadership position is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of comprehensive environmental compliance programs for the Company. The position oversees assessment and management of environmental risks and compliance throughout the organization; direct and supervise the operation of the environmental departments; and provide Environmental program management which ensures compliance with Federal, State and local regulations. This position is also responsible for strategic planning, staffing, assessing and implementing regulatory based environmental policies, standards, procedures and practices throughout the Company.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, or similar field required
Master's Degree preferred
Professional Engineer preferred
20+ years of progressive environmental experience in the refining / fertilizer industry required
10 years of environmental training and development of materials
10+ years of supervisory experience
Certified Environmental Professional Auditor preferred
Regulatory analysis and program implementation experience required
Air permitting experience required
Industrial wastewater permitting and operations preferred
Hazardous waste program management experience required.
Proficient in MS Office Suite software
Fluent in English, oral and written required
Demonstrated strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and teamwork skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to travel as needed
Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs and address unexpected issues
Identify solutions for environmental program improvements in the organization
With leadership, develop strategic plans to achieve and maintain compliance with all regulatory and permit requirements. Analyze and formulate objectives to reach plan(s)
Lead, develop and/or approve effective materials and presentations for environmental training for employees
Work with environmental staff to ensure all jobsite specific procedures are current and utilized
Perform and or review regularly scheduled environmental audits
Serve as Corporate liaison to government officials concerning environmental matters
Review federal regulation updates and industry best practices to provide the Company with the information necessary for compliance and training
Prepare reports and make presentations to executives and at community town meetings, and assist in the development of presentations for Board of Director's meetings and sub-committee meetings
Assist in the selection, training, motivation and monitoring of performance of staff
Supervise Company's Environmental Managers (or Supervisors and Engineers, if applicable)
Manage expenditures, track and adhere to departmental budget
Regularly communicate and collaborate with staff and other departmental leaders to achieve objectives and compliance.
Provide progress updates, concerns and best practice recommendations to the Vice President of EHS&S
Creation and execution of training, processes and documentation to achieve and maintain compliance
Periodic audits of programs are developed and implemented to ensure effectiveness
Operations management are informed of compliance regulations and changes with supporting referenced documentation
Training for program implementation will be designed for the appropriate end user
Direct staff remains current and adheres to regulations. Staff receives performance advice and recognition effectively and timely.
