Consider a career as a Senior Materials Engineer (Coatings & Finishes) at Bose Corporation as part of the Supplier Technology Engineering team. The Senior Materials Engineer will focus on the development of new and existing process and technologies throughout the Bose supply chain to advance capabilities in manufacturing coating & finishing operations to support new product development.
Active engagement with Bose Advanced Development, Industrial Design and New Product Introduction teams to identify and seamlessly integrate new finishes and coatings into production.
Identification, assessment, and auditing of paint and coating suppliers (domestic and international) to ensure best in class processes and controls in place to provide finishes that meet or exceed Bose world class expectations.
Technical Lead for design engineering, industrial design and manufacturing personnel to develop and improve paint and finishing processes.
Perform technical reviews and provide input for paint material, finishing, corrosion and UV protection requirements for new product requirements.
Point of escalation for the Bose Supply Chain, Engineering Teams and Manufacturing plants on an ongoing basis to resolve complicated technical issues.
Required Education: BS/MS in Polymer Chemistry, Materials, or Chemical Engineering.
8 to 10 years of industry experience related to paints, coatings and finishing:
Thin film processing (PVD and CVD) preferred
Chemistry of polymer and coating materials such as epoxy, urethane and acrylics
painting on metal (aluminum, steel, other metals) and plastics/composite substrates
Surface preparation (mechanical, passivation, primers), paint application and paint evaluation techniques
Corrosion of metals, corrosion mechanisms, corrosion prevention and polymer degradation
Chemical, mechanical and electrical test methods used on uncoated and coated plastic and metal substrates
Experience with designing and working in a cleanroom environment is preferred
Skills and abilities:
Subject matter expert in trouble-shooting common and complex failures of paint, metal, finishes and coating using 8D tools and techniques.
Demonstrated proficiency using DOE, SPC, D/PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flows
Working knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Principles. Six Sigma Black Belt certification preferred.
Written and verbal fluency in English, Valid Passport, and ability to travel (approximately 20%)
