Alion Science and Technology is seeking a junior mechanical engineer with experience in design/drafting with 3D CAD tools (and optionally with electronics) to perform x-ray imaging analysis. The individual will work under the guidance of Engineers and Senior Technicians to create netlists from x-ray images taken of electronics equipment to include printed circuit boards. As the candidate grows in the job, he will become more involved in the analysis of the netlists, providing feedback to the x-ray team to improve the process.
As a secondary task, the applicant will be responsible for creating 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks of vendor and in-house components. This work will include detailed part-and-assembly drawings, Bills Of Materials (BOMs), assembly notes, etc. The candidate will work closely with a team of mechanical engineers to accomplish this as well as to maintain a digital CAD library of commonly used components.
To accomplish this mission, the candidate needs to have experience with (or will be trained in) CAD programs, specifically SolidWorks. The applicant should have good spatial skills and a very good attention to detail. On the job, the candidate will learn to work with image processing software, get a greater understanding of printed circuit board design and develop an understanding of basic electronic components.
The candidate will also work well in multi-disciplinary teams; providing mechanical engineering support (principles of hydronics, component specification and design for mechanical assemblies, stress/structural analysis, etc.) in project design and review.
BS in Mechanical Engineering
Good analytical, critical thinking, spatial and problem solving skills
Reading and interpreting technical/mechanical drawings
Experience with software programs/tools such as: MATLAB and Lab VIEW
Training in one of the following engineering CAD programs: Autocad, Solidworks, ORCAD, ScanCad, Altium or other electronic drawing program or mechanical design software OR five years of experience working with drawings
Experience creating and evaluating net lists
Good understanding/knowledge base of electronic components
Previous work drawing out mechanical components and simple assemblies
Basic experience working with electronics with basic knowledge of electronic signal flow and circuit analysis
Self-motivated individual with the ability to work under direction or alone as the project dictates
Good attention to detail
Good communication and teamwork skills

Candidates will be required to obtain a minimum of a SECRET clearance and access commensurate to their involvement with the USG. Candidates will be subject to investigation as required by the NISPOM, ICD 704 processes, DoD Manual 5205.07, Volume 2, and any additional Government Policy or Directives as determined by the Cognizant Security Agency. Candidates may be subject to a polygraph and enhanced security review.
