Purpose of Position
THIS POSITION WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.
Why does the job exist?
This position will manage the District Five Bridge Section.
How does it get done?
Incumbent will provide design assistance for new bridge structures and bridge rehabilitation projects, manage the bridge mainteance budget, oversee mainteance projects, and the bridge inspection program. The incumbent will also supervise and direct the bridge inspectors within the Bridge section.
Who are the customers?
The traveling public, Internal Department of Transportation employees, and other entities.
The Ideal Candidate will have experience in the following;
- Supervision of employees.
- Bridge type section reports and/or scoping reports for bridge projects.
- Calculating surfacing areas and quantities for various typical sections, surfacing material turnouts, intersections, acceleration/deceleration lanes and guardrail locations.
- Performing preventative maintenance needs for bridges/structures.
- Computing cost estimates for bridge/structural projects.
- Administrating purchase orders based on price agreements.
- Performing engineering assignments in bridge design.
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and six (6) years of engineering experience, two (2) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing.
No substitutions. Must possess required licensure, certification or registration and required number of years of experience
Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Business Reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.
Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer to include working with computers, faxes, copiers, printers and phone usage. Extensive use of personal computer. Work is also performed in the field with varying weather conditions; including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. May include exposure to: 'Sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; 'Moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals 'High speed/high volume traffic and loud noises, confined spaces; 'Falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; 'Standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances; Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Maybe required to work irregular hours and maybe subject to call outs for emergencies. Interaction with the public by phone and in person. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.
