ERM is seeking a motivated Staff Environmental Engineer/Scientist , who is interested in participating on a variety of projects covering the full spectrum of ERM’s services, to join our consulting firm in Richmond, VA . In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers on EHS compliance, air quality, contaminated site management, process safety management, and due diligence transaction projects. A candidate with experience or interest in Air Quality and Process Safety projects is a plus. This is an opportunity to support development of ERM’s Air Quality & Climate Change service area in Virginia and grow your career with support from ERM’s Air Quality & Climate Change technical community. ERM’s Air Quality & Climate Change service area is one of the largest among its peers in our industry and is steadily growing at a double-digit pace. In North America alone, ERM has more than 300 dedicated air quality and climate change professionals assisting clients with projects as diverse as developing responses to emerging Low Carbon Fuel Standards, to leading complex capital projects through the many hurdles associated with the NSR permitting program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide technical assistance on EHS compliance, air quality management, site investigation and remediation, process safety, and due diligence transaction projects.
Prepare plans, permits, and reports for hazardous waste, air quality, storm water, NPDES, and wastewater programs.
Perform environmental compliance assessments and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Implement environmental compliance management systems and processes.
Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on-site assistance, as needed.
Develop environmental assessments under the NEPA for consumer products, which includes exposure analysis and environmental/ecological toxicity evaluations.
Conduct air quality analyses, assess regulatory compliance, and perform regulatory applicability evaluations.
Develop complete and accurate air quality permits for Title V, PSD, and New Source Review compliance. Interact with local regulators to steward permit application review and issuance.
Prepare emission inventory reports; quantify air pollutant emissions and impacts.
Evaluate air pollution control technologies, including technical and economic feasibility of air pollution control equipment.
Assist clients with MACT compliance programs.
Support projects related to health and safety programs and process safety management.
Perform multiple tasks within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
Support ERM Partners-in-Charge and Project Managers to effectively manage projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
BS in engineering (chemical, environmental, or mechanical), environmental related discipline, or related degree; MS and/or EIT certification a plus.
Recent graduate to 3 years of relevant environmental experience or professional internships. Direct consulting or industry experience involving state construction and Title V permitting; PSD, NSR, BACT, and/or MACT experience a plus.
Strong hands-on spreadsheet and database comprehension. Demonstrated understanding of air emissions and emission reporting processes a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
