Sigma Science Inc. (SSI) is currently looking for a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer. We are seeking people who thrive on the satisfaction of meeting expectations through meeting technical excellence integrity and quality.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Support the development, review, and implementation of criticality safety documentation for various facilities in Amarillo, Texas. Provide technical assistance in developing criticality safety documents and analyses, criticality safety controls, and related technical support documentation. Ensure that the development of criticality safety documentation complies with requirements and as necessary, and applicable controls are implemented in field procedures. Conduct Criticality Safety Program assessments and maintain program manuals. Services shall be provided using DOE processes and procedures.
Develop nuclear criticality safety evaluations and program documents that meet applicable DOE requirements and standards, utilizing nuclear criticality safety software (SCALE and MCNP) as needed.
Perform nuclear criticality safety reviews of existing and proposed facility designs and modifications; and research or processing activities involving fissionable materials.
Perform evaluation of unplanned events involving fissionable material and participate in recovery planning.
Mentor nuclear criticality safety staff in performance of nuclear criticality safety evaluations and support of program implementation and training.
WHAT YOU NEED (Minimum Qualifications):
BS/BA with 8 - 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 8 years of recent experience in the nuclear/criticality safety industry through support of the Department of Energy (DOE) or the commercial nuclear industry.
Alternate combination of education and experience will be considered where candidate has an advance degree.
Previous experience with the use and implementation of 10 CFR 830, DOE O 420.1C, and the ANSI/ANS-8 Series of Standards is required.
Previous experience in developing, reviewing, and maintaining SRS criticality safety documents is preferred.
Candidate must demonstrate personal accountability for facility/project schedules, deadlines, budgets, and the safe performance of work; and proficiency in performing Criticality Safety Program assessments.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of a criticality safety code (MCNP or SCALE) is required.
Familiarity with nuclear facilities (e.g., DOE, Commercial Power, Navy Nuclear) and their operations.
