We are seeking a Professional Engineer to work in our Engineering Standards & Support Services Department. This individual will
be responsible for the design, operational and maintenance engineering support of automatic fire prevention and protection systems
associated with all areas of the Corporation.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support for the design, maintenance and operation of fire prevention and protection equipment in Manitoba
Hydro facilities.

  • Develop and maintain proficiency on legacy and modern fire prevention and protection systems.
  • Provide technical direction to technicians and maintenance personnel for maintaining, testing and commissioning new,
refurbished, and existing fire prevention and protection systems.
  • Work with Operations, Asset Management and Engineering departments to identify needs, prioritization and project scope
requirements for future maintenance and capital investments.
  • Maintain a strong working relationship with maintenance and operating staff to address operational reliability, safety and
compliance issues, while continually improve overall asset performance outage management.
  • Respond to complex inquiries and interface with customers and insurers to obtain stakeholder feedback.
  • Identify, triage and update asset information and workflows through the Department's work management processes.
  • Responsible for the implementation of Manitoba Building Code, Manitoba Fire Code and Manitoba Hydro Fire Manual
requirements.
  • Prepare maintenance plans and procedures for new equipment and modify these procedures for equipment replacements and
as improvement opportunities become apparent.
  • Required to travel to generating stations in connection with field work during testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and
maintenance.
  • Required to be available to work during non-regular business hours to provide engineering and troubleshooting support during
call outs and planned and unplanned (forced) outages.

Qualifications:
  • Graduate in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a University of recognized standing plus six years' related experience,
which includes a minimum of three years' field experience directly related to the design, operation and maintenance, and
testing and commissioning of fire detection or protection systems.

  • Professional Member of Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
  • Working knowledge in the design, installation and commissioning of fire detection systems to CAN/ULC standards and fire
suppression systems to NFPA codes in Manitoba Hydro facilities.
  • Working knowledge in the design, construction and commissioning of buildings and auxiliary systems to Manitoba Building
Code requirements in Manitoba Hydro facilities.
  • Working knowledge of generating station, converter station and major transmission facilities operation, including the permit
system, lock-out tag-out systems, and other interconnected auxiliary equipment.
  • Extensive practical experience and detailed working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of fire detection and
suppression equipment in hydraulic generating stations, HVDC converter stations or Major transmission facilities.
  • Ability to evaluate and develop interpretations of fire codes and standards.
  • Safety conscious and be knowledgeable about corporate safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to travel to Manitoba Hydro facilities throughout Manitoba, with some longer duration trips as required by all
modes of transportation i.e. air, land and water.
  • Possess and maintain a valid class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence.

Salary Range

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $43.40-$59.92 Hourly,
$83,164.38-$114,818.86 Annually.
