Senior Materials Engineer – Polymer Materials

We are looking for a highly motivated and seasoned Materials Engineer who enjoys bringing both technical and tactical expertise to cross-disciplinary teams and is excited about leading product designs through providing material/process recommendations to the design team and thorough qualification of said material/process. A strong mix of technical breadth and depth on will allow you to work cross-functionally with mechanical, optics, electrical and reliability teams and transforming technology into compelling consumer experiences.
Provide leadership and problem solving for materials issue including, but not limited to, polymer materials and the associated manufacturing processes
Drive engagement with vendors to select most suitable materials and processes, generate performance specification and qualification plan for components with product designers
Lead the failure analysis effort and develop mitigation plans during product development process by providing specific guidance to vendors and informing cross-functional teams on risks and trade-offs
Drive internal and external materials analysis and characterizations for polymer materials
The candidate must be willing and able to travel (domestic and international) to support design and manufacturing activities.
Bachelors’s degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field
5+ years of experience on polymer processing with 3+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas for polymer processing:
Coatings (paints, PVD, etc)
Track record in successfully delivering polymer materials to mass production
Excellent in writing and verbal communication skills
This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services governed by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Due to contractual limitations and ITAR obligations associated with this role, U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) is required.
Master’s or Doctorate degree in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field
7+ years of experience on polymer processing with 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas for polymer processing:
Coatings (paints, PVD, etc)
Experience with finishing and coating technologies for metals (anodization, PEO, etching primers, etc.)
