We are currently seeking an Associate for our Biomechanics Practice in Farmington Hills, MI. In this role you will work as part of a team supporting both our rapidly advancing proactive In The Wild wearable-technology initiative and executing biomechanics litigation consulting projects related to human injury analyses. This role will involve deriving, analyzing, and interpreting a variety of complex wearable technology-driven data streams to successfully inform human movement and human-product/machine interactions in a variety of naturalistic use-settings. It will additionally involve the analysis of the human body response to forces generated during an incident to determine potential for injury, analysis of the incident to determine if and/or how an injury occurred, and analysis of how such injuries could have been mitigated (e.g., seatbelt use, product design).
You will be responsible for:
Designing and executing human experiments to quantify and interpret explicity performance characteristics within naturalistic movement environments
Processing, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on complex largescale wearable-technology data outputs
Writing proposals to initiate and/or support new opportunities in the human performance technology sector (e.g. clinical, military, consumer products, sports)
Extensively reviewing both technical and non-technical materials to identify key facts and information (this may include reviewing police reports, medical/autopsy records, legal pleadings, expert reports, deposition testimony, photographs, vehicle specifications, and other documentation)
Researching and reviewing relevant scientific journals, publications, and testing and then analyzing and synthesizing technical biomechanicsl issues involving kinematics, dynamics, mechanisms of injury, and human tolerance
Clearly communicating findings via written reports and presentations
Demonstrating the ability to synthesize technical information into an easily understood format suitable for presenting to technical and non-technical audiences
You will be working in a small team environment within the larger company-wide Biomechanics Practice, and as such, you will be expected to actively create and pursue opportunities to develop a positive work flow. While balancing the demands of project work, you will be expected to participate in original research, publish papers in technical journals, and present findings at conferences.
You will have the following skills and qualifications:
Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
Demonstrated experience in study design and associated statistical analyses
Experience in using wearable technologies to quantify human motion/performance in various settings
Significant experience in computational programming (e.e., Python, Matlab), with an emphasis in algorithm development and signal processing
Prior machine learning experience is desirable
Experience or familiarity with conducting technical analyses pertaining to injury potential, injury mechanisms, and/or injury mitigation in accident scenarios
Prior exposure to litigation consulting is desirable
Effective leadership skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of professionals, including engineers, scientists, managers, attorneys, and administrative staff
