The Vehicle Engineering Department is part of the Vehicle Systems Division, the premier satellite and launch vehicle technical organization within the Aerospace Corporation. We are seeking a Modeling & Simulation Engineer who is inquisitive, motivated, has outstanding technical skills, and has uncompromising technical integrity and objectivity to contribute to our growing team in the Vehicle Modeling and Analysis Section. You will work on satellite-level, subsystem-to-subsystem, and satellite-to-system integrated modeling and analysis primarily across a range of intelligence community programs, but with opportunities in civil and defense agency programs also. Aerospace’s broad reach across the U.S. space systems enterprise will give you a unique opportunity to follow your own particular interests and identify ways that you can uniquely contribute based on your particular skills and experience.
Provide spacecraft engineering analytical support to intelligence, defense, and civil agency programs as well as internal research
Analysis areas may include geolocation, optimal satellite pointing and planning, estimation and calibration, satellite tasking, and satellite data processing
Analyses in support of vehicle integration, vehicle-to-system and vehicle-to-ground interface assessment, vehicle on-orbit performance assessment and trending, and advanced system algorithm development
Be a point-of-contact for detailed technical analyses and assessments to:
assess capabilities and margins
identify failure modes
investigate issues and anomalies
Apply your knowledge and expertise and work with your Aerospace Corporation program support teammates to form recommendations and provide technical advice to intelligence, defense, and civil customers
Initiate and lead advanced complex integrated analysis and simulation projects consisting of diverse teams with additional Aerospace engineering and laboratory support
Provide technical leadership in identifying, mitigating, and solving applicable satellite, launch vehicle, and subsystem risks and issues
Lead the design and development of standard software tools for modeling and simulation in high performance computing environments
Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or an appropriate technical discipline with at least eight years of experience including three years of experience in space systems modeling, analysis, and simulation
Experience in engineering modeling and analysis with computer programming of models, simulations, and/or data processing
Familiarity with Object-Oriented programming principles, software configuration management, and basic software design
Current and active TS/SSBI security clearance
Graduate-level degree in physics, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or an appropriate technical discipline
Ability to support the planning and development of missile, launch vehicle, satellite, payload sensors systems, and/or ground processing programs
Demonstrated project or team leadership experience
Ability to work closely with senior Aerospace/government management
Experience with rotational dynamics and kinematics, statistics and error evaluation, geometric optics and imaging systems
Familiarity with Linux and high-performance computing environments
