This position will work closely with the ASSA ABLOY Architectural Door Accessories' General Managers (Rockwood, Pemko, McKinney) and business unit teams on creating more cost effective products through a combination of design, packaging, and sourcing revisions. It is an exciting and strategic new opportunity to develop and launch new categories of products while working as a focused innovation team. This will require an entrepreneurial mindset, and a drive to accomplish tasks quickly while working through ample "gray area".
Close cross-functional collaboration within the overall Architectural Door Accessories group is required. This person will be involved in the development of the product road map and helping determine the path forward for the group. They will be expected learn the new product development (NPD) process, move fast and lead projects from inception to launch and use data analytics to develop sound recommendations.
This position will have high visibility, if successful may earn the opportunity to lead a cross-functional team and gain significant responsibility.
This position will report to the Product Engineering Leader, Accessories and Glass Solutions and will be located at on of our locations in New Haven CT, Berlin CT, Memphis TN or Rockwood, PA.
Work closely with product management, sourcing, outside suppliers on altering existing products to achieve superior cost positions.
Perform Value Analysis to determine cost savings opportunities related to existing products.
Identify opportunities, design improvements, and implement changes for door opening systems.
Analysis of mechanical systems, including analysis for structural, fatigue, thermal, and acoustics.
Research and analyze design proposals, specification, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
Work closely with outside suppliers for component selection, manufacturing processes, and assembly methods.
Create and execute product test plans, to include alpha, beta, and compliance testing for durability and functionality.
Develop design drawings in accordance with applicable standards and tolerances.
Manage a wide range of projects at any point in the development cycle from ideation through manufacturing.
Manage project/workstream/team dependencies and risks while optimizing for constraints; monitor the project status at engineering level.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Excellent problem solving and time management skills
Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge
Knowledge of GD&T and managing tolerance stack-up in component assemblies
Cost reduction, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement and Cost Analysis Experience
Working knowledge of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing assembly processes
Project management experience preferred
"Get it done" mindset who is also self-motivated and highly organized
Background in mechanical parts and systems design preferred
Aluminum extrusion, stainless steel, extruded resin parts design experience is a plus
Manufacturing experience is a plus
Able to work in a fast-paced environment
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years engineering experience with a focus on design and manufacturing
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Project)
Proficient in SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling and simulation and AutoCad (preferred)
