A day in the life:
Serve as the statewide traffic operations expert in strategies including intersection control alternatives, traffic flow efficiency and signal operation methods.
Provide engineering support and direct, high-level decision information, technical assistance, policy interpretations and program coordination information to stakeholders.
Update traffic operations policy and guidelines documents.
Recommend and participate in research activities.
Provide recommendations on traffic engineering studies, investigations and traffic control designs.
Evaluate unique and unusual traffic engineering problems statewide.
Act as primary contact for all requests for installing new or modifying existing intersection traffic control on state highways.
Review and/or delegate review of all signal requests.
Track and monitor requests for signals.
Research and develop new traffic signal control strategies and signal timing programs.
Evaluate software including managing statewide software changes and contracts.
Coordinate between units within the section and within the agency on operation matters and statewide policies and methods.
Work is performed in a typical office environment with meetings in Salem and often at locations statewide.
Occasional field work may involve exposure to heavy traffic volumes associated with work on traffic signals and intersection controls.

What we need:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
Additionally, driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.

Knowledge and experience in traffic engineering, including intersection and corridor operations.
Skilled in communicating technical concepts to a wide variety of audiences.
Experience developing policies and guidance documents.
