Wenck is seeking an Environmental Engineer with approximately 5 years of experience for our Duluth, MN office. This position will be primarily serving northern MN, WI, MI as well as national projects/clients as needed. Through this position, we are seeking to expand our Environmental Engineering and Environmental Compliance and Permitting practice in Duluth. Work areas include solid waste and wastewater engineering design and construction projects along with environmental compliance and permitting for a variety of private and public clients. Typical clients include mining (metallic and non-metallic), manufacturing, solid waste, biofuels, oil & gas, power & utilities, real estate, and city/county government. Tasks for environmental compliance projects may include program assistance for environmental laws, regulations and permitting associated with, but not limited to, Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Oil Pollution Act (OPA) spill planning.
5 years of engineering and environmental experience
Undergraduate degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering or related field
Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements including, hazardous and solid waste, stormwater, Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), water/wastewater, air permitting, stormwater pollution prevention, and spill planning
Ability to travel regionally and nationally, including overnight trips as business needs dictate
Project management experience is desired
Effective verbal and written communication skills with both clients and project team members
Strong analytical skills and good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software platform
Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done
Experience working with local, state and/or federal agencies is desired
Consulting experience is preferred, including completion of successful environmental engineering and compliance projects
Environmental management systems (EMS), ISO, multi-media compliance auditing, and tank systems and inspections experience is desired
Work exposure to one or more of the following industrial categories: solid waste, biofuels and biomaterials, food & agriculture, government, higher education, manufacturing, metals, mining, oil & gas, power & utilities, real estate, and transportation
PE, CHMM, CPEA, or other registrations a plus
Assist with preparing proposals describing scope, schedule, and estimated budget for executing projects
Construction observation and reporting for landfill and wastewater projects
Design of landfills, wastewater plants and other engineering projects
Lead the execution of multi-media environmental compliance projects for a wide variety of clients
Prepare environmental reports, plans, and permit application project deliverables
Identify applicable environmental regulations
Lead and assist project managers with development of permitting and compliance strategies
Assist clients in identifying appropriate monitoring, planning, training, testing, record-keeping, and reporting protocols
Depending on experience level, manage scope, schedule, and budget for environmental compliance and permitting projects
