The Packaging Engineer I (BU) position reports to the Packaging, Handling and Transportability Position (PH&T) department within the Log, Test and Evaluation (LT&E) organization within CSO.
Able to specify type of packaging/preservative procedures for parts and materials in accordance with packaging of military spares.
Investigate and develop new methods of packaging and new packaging materials/equipment.
Contribute to the design of new containers best commercial and/or Long Life Reuseable Containers (LLRCs).
Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) for bids supporting packaging contracts.
Interpret drawings, specs, and/or requirements in order to support or execute government contracts.
Communicate and Collaborate with Engineering, program/project office, outside vendors, external customer, plant engineering, and supply chain on various vehicle platforms to develop packaging data (Selects and Special Packaging Instructions) and solutions.
Specify unit pack packaging and standard containers to standard procedures.
Incidental, clerical, and record keeping work may be required.
Work with material handler to estimate, plan and execute best commercial walk-in work.
Work with Packaging Engineering Management to develop vehicle Shipping and Storage Instructions (SSI) or Equipment Preservation Data Sheets (EPDS).
Support company initiatives such as Continuous Improvement and Share Planning.
Bachelor degree in Packaging Engineering.
Experience in Military packaging and a background in defense preferred.
Working knowledge of packaging practices and standards (i.e., MIL-STD-2073, ASTM 4169).
Experience with practical application of supporting packaging of military spares.
Working knowledge of MS Office suite to include Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint.
Experience working with relational databases and 3D modeling software (i.e., TeamCenter, Visualization Mockup, Solidworks).
Ability to decompose complex issues, interpret scope and estimate required work load based on timing need.
Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting in both formal and informal settings.
Ability to prioritize assignments and multi-task on multiple programs.
Strong decision making skills.
Experience in military programs.
Experience in a team-oriented environment, while working with internal and external customers.
Working knowledge of Army Logistics and Vehicle Platforms.
