We are seeking a Product Design Engineer for our Lawn and Garden division to join our team in Portland, Oregon.

What we’re looking for:
3+ years of mechanical engineering experience using Solidworks or similar CAD program
Ability to develop moderately to highly complex design concepts with creative ideas and approaches
Working knowledge of creating advanced/fully detailed ground-up drawings, models and multi-user assemblies; create multiple complex prototypes, with proficiency in creating 3D and 2D models, designs, and drawings
Ability to understand the manufacturing processes required to create a design robust to manufacturing that complies with Blount’s quality system
Comfortability leading informal and formal projects while meeting project deliverables and deadlines
Experience with product testing methods and ability to plan and develop new test parameters and methods
Strong communicator who can adapt to communication differences among globally dispersed teams, suppliers and organizations
Willingness to be on-site as needed to coordinate with lab and prototype departments
What you’ll do:
Create complex lawn and garden equipment designs and component selection as well as improve and maintain existing products, focused on lawnmower blades and trimmer line. Lead designs, as well as create new products and processes, and supports technical research and concept development. Communicate with other engineers, team members, project leaders and management and provide solutions for cost efficiency, manufacturing robustness, and increased reliability.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering required; mechanical engineering discipline strongly preferred
3+ years’ experience using Solidworks or similar CAD program with demonstrated proficiency; must be able to create 3D models of designs and create 2D drawings to acceptable drafting practices
Experienced in a product design role is highly preferred
Experience with design for manufacturability is highly preferred
Demonstrated skills in developing design concepts and assemblies
Knowledge of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and/or metal forming technologies are a plus
