We are seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer on the Orion Program responsible for the coordination of all aspects of system test preparation and execution.

Summary of Key Duties for this position:
  • Responsible for knowing proper test conduct and test processes, obtaining Certified Test Conductor certification and participating in running floor operations.
  • Responsibilities will include understanding test requirements & objectives, defining the test implementation approach, coordinating usage of test tooling, ground equipment, instrumentation & data systems, releasing test procedures, and interfacing with both internal and NASA customers.
  • The work will primarily involve acceptance tests and ground servicing of fluids & pneumatic systems, mechanical structures and mechanisms at the subsystem, system and spacecraft level of assembly.
  • This position requires an understanding of the ATLO flow and processes including test execution, anomaly resolution, and paper closure.
  • Test activities will primarily take place at Kennedy Space Center, but the position will be required to support test efforts at other locations for periods of time.
Typical Experience:
  • Typically has Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2 years of professional experience; or no professional experience with a related Masters degree.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to develop and maintain effective cross- functional relationships and an ability to work and lead in a team environment
  • Solid engineering skills/foundation including problem/anomaly identification, analysis, resolution and closure in support of testing
  • Fundamental knowledge of spacecraft/aerospace test operations
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and test specifications for testing of spacecraft flight hardware
  • Experience generating test plans and test procedures
Desired Skills:
  • Experience with structural, environmental or pneumatic testing
  • Familiarity using MGSE (pressure or fluids loading panels)
  • Experience working with spacecraft flight fluid systems, such as Propulsion or Environmental Life Support systems
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Certified Test Conductor (CTC) or CTC OJT
  • Thermal and/or Vacuum environmental testing experience
  • Experience with hazardous operations testing to include high pressure gases, propellants (hypergolic) and an understanding of refrigerants
  • Fundamental knowledge of Automation Framework and procedure generation, review, release and execution.
  • Experience with development and release of Functional Failure Modes and Effects Analysis FFMEAs
  • Thorough understanding of LM command media for test Engineering (CIPS)
  • Ability to travel to other LM Space campuses to perform Test Engineering activities
  • Experience working with and/or leading a test team to include other test engineers, technicians and quality assurance during testing of spacecraft flight hardware
