About the role:
The R & D Engineer will work with a cross-functional team of scientists and technicians in developing new chemical processes, tackling complex multidisciplinary problems as well as proposing, implementing, and testing solutions.
What you’ll be doing:
Build, iterate on, and debug complex chemical reactors
Work with the engineering team and external vendors to get new reactors built and existing reactors modified, upgraded, and supported
Analyze chemical synthesis processes, identify the key physical phenomena underlying them, and use this understanding to develop improvements to processes and reactors
Take on project responsibilities and work across teams to help set goals, priorities, and timelines.
Effectively communicate experimental outcomes and propose new DOEs into actionable terms
Identify safety hazards and work proactively to implement safety improvements
What we’re looking for:
M.S. (or equivalent experience) or (B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline and must have work experience in an engineering role
a deep understanding of thermodynamics, reaction kinetics
Experience analyzing real thermal/mechanical/chemical systems and applying the results to make quantifiable improvements to hardware and processes
Possess high aptitude in heat transfer, thermo, and fluids fundamentals
Ability to troubleshoot and rework equipment (mechanical and electrical), familiar with laboratory and production instrumentation
Experience working in a laboratory or R&D environment
Strong communication skills; ability to listen and effectively communicate technical concepts to a diverse audience
Experience in collaborative problem solving:
sharing knowledge, ideas, resources, and long-term plans in order to solve complex technical problems
Other qualities we’d love for you to have:
Experience with vacuum systems, chemical vapor deposition processes, semiconductor, or photovoltaic processes
Data analysis or programming experience (Python, LabVIEW preferred)
Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection on a periodic basis
Wear personal protective equipment including, but not limited to, a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toed safety shoes
Move items up to 50 lbs. with the assistance of lift equipment and carts
