POSITION SUMMARY: The Nuclear Mechanical Design Engineer will be a member of the NuScale Power, Inc. Reactor Systems group. The Reactor Systems group generates the technical requirements for the modular ALWR nuclear steam supply system. Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies, the Reactor Systems group specifies the design parameters associated with the reactor vessel, pressurizer, steam generator, reactor vessel internals, and associated connecting piping in addition to providing the supporting applied mechanics analyses (encompassing both fluid and solid mechanics) in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section III and ASME B31.1 Power Piping Code. All of the work within the Reactor Systems group is completed under the ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prepare engineering specifications under the direction of senior personnel.
2. Perform basic engineering calculations for power system components and generate technical requirements for ALWR nuclear steam supply system.
3. Prepare procedures, workflows and perform under ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and Power Piping Codes under ASME NQA-1 Quality Assurance requirements and U.S. NRC guidelines.
4. Perform basic specs and design parameters associated with reactor vessel.
5. Research regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required:
Education: BS/MS ME or Engineering Science & Mechanics from an ABET accredited US university.
Experience: 2+ yr. experience in the design and analysis of nuclear power plant mechanical components. 2 to 5 yr. experience in the design of piping (power or petro-chemical) and pressure vessels.
Overall Job Knowledge and Performance: Familiar with ASME B&PV Code, Section III and/or ASME B31.1. Proficient with MS Office Products and PTC Mathcad.
Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Interpersonal Skills: Able to work independently and in a team environment and to work extended hours and travel as required.
