Battelle is currently seeking an Energetic Research Mechanical Engineer. This position is located Picatinny Arsenal NJ. Position is contingent upon award of work.

This is a full-time position. In general, the incumbent will design, analyze, test, manufacture and maintain munition, explosive and mechanical components and systems, and test equipment. Applies principles of engineering, physics, and materials science as well as an understanding of core areas including mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, chemistry, life sciences and electricity along with tools like computer aided design and product lifecycle management to design and analyze munition and test systems and energetic manufacturing plants. Designs, develops and implements numerical methods for Computational Fluid Dynamics or Structural Mechanics analysis of high energy systems using advanced programing techniques. Among other tasks, conducts performance assessments of current energetic formulations and develops recommendations for improved formulations, with design configurations and integration into assigned munitions. Prepares work plans, risk assessments, hazard analyses, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and data packages for materials qualification. Develops test methods and conducts test result evaluation of energetic materials and non-energetic chemical compounds. Performs systematic studies of specific materials, devices, and processes for the transfer of commercially useful materials to weapon systems. Conducts demilitarization studies of new and existing munitions to ensure environmentally acceptable, safe, and economical disposal of surplus munitions Identifies concepts, procedures, and plans for the organized transfer of commercially useful materials, devices, processes, manufacturing methods, techniques, know-how, and related critical technology, related energetic materials.
Performs engineering research and analysis on a variety of mechanical and energetic components. Solves a range of problems. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures.
Performs assignments of moderate complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
Interprets, compiles and analyzes data collected and writes various technical reports.
Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
Builds relationships with internal clients.
Contributes to IR&D studies.
Supports business development efforts led by others.
May oversee lower-level staff in extracting and preparing data for analysis.
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 2-5 years’ experience, or a Master’s degree in Engineering with 0-2 years of experience.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office tools: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Must be a US Citizen.
Successfully be authorized and issued a Government security badge.
Has the potential to receive a US Government Secret security clearance.
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
