The Hakai Institute is a scientific research institution conducting research at multiple locations on the coastal margin of British Columbia. Hakai is currently looking for talented Software Developers to join our team. The successful candidates will be part of an outstanding team working to design, develop and deploy a variety of innovative software solutions to collect, manage and distribute scientific research data and products.
In addition to working with peers at Hakai and partner organizations across BC, successful candidates will work with peers from across Canada to help develop the Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS), supported by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) and the Marine Environmental Observation & Response Network (MEOPAR).
Successful candidates will work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects. Specific roles and responsibilities may include user experience design, front-end web development and back-end database/server development We are looking to hire multiple software developers, and will assign projects based on your specific background, expertise and interests.
These full time positions are located in Campbell River, BC. or at our close by facility on Quadra Island, BC. The positions include benefits, and a competitive salary will be negotiated based on the experience of the successful candidate. Qualifications and Skills
Post-secondary education in computer science, engineering, oceanography or a related discipline
Experience with Linux and familiar with software deployment methods and tools
Familiar with data and metadata standards such as NetCDF and ISO 19115
Able to meet deadlines while working in a distributed and collaborative team environment
Experience with GitHub, and contributing to open source projects
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
