What you'll do:
The Mechanical Engineer works with their Project and/or Application Team(s) to create and manage the development, validation, and production of electro-mechanical products for Veoneer internal and customer applications. The Automotive Products position is responsible for mechanical, thermal, and optical aspects of our products, as required, for global automotive applications. This position will require interfacing with cross functional, local and global development teams, including customers, suppliers, manufacturers, and tool & fixture designers, as needed. The Mechanical Engineer must be able to operate independently, with minimal management supervision, and ensure their output products meet Veoneer and customer standards.
Mechanical integration of PCB assemblies in cast/stamped/machined metal or molded plastic enclosures.
Provide input to development team(s) on mechanical, thermal, and optical aspects of design proposals to achieve successful outcome of system development, utilizing VPDS procedures and milestones.
Create 3D solid models and 2D drawings, as needed, using Catia V5+ tools, or equivalent tools.
Provide technical direction to assigned CAD personnel to ensure successful release of drawings and models.
Analyze and correlate differences in theory, FEA, simulations, and empirical data for electromechanical parts.
Provide technical interface to outside suppliers to achieve successful completion on component, product and system design objectives, including part tooling & production process, within time and cost constraints.
Develop designs and details from general instructions and/or sketches.
Interpret & incorporate customer specifications.
Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities.
Prepares specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations as needed.
Interface with design engineers to review and approve designs per specifications.
Make packaging, production, and stack-up analysis, define controls and checking parameters.
Create full GD&T dimension scheme for components and assemblies.
Develop test methods, engineering reports, fixture/prototype designs and test execution support for product development.
Create and release parts and BOM’s in PLM, manage change control items, as needed.
Maintain technical knowledge by staying up-to-date with evolving Veoneer & customer tools, standards, procedures & related requirements.
Other duties related to product development or support as assigned by Mechanical Engineering Manager or Project Manager.
Occasional travel and overtime work may be required.
What you'll bring:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineer or equivalent, Masters degree preferred
Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer (automotive electronics packaging, thermal management experience preferred, optics/vision systems experience a plus).
Strong background in automotive electronics mechanical packaging and interconnection technology.
Printed circuit board housing assembly and component manufacturing including injection molding, die-casting and/or stamping operations and trade-offs.
Ability to generate detailed model and drawings from sketches, specifications, and/or verbal instructions.
Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals and practices.
Experience with automotive Class A surfaces & passenger compartment packaging preferred.
Knowledge of standard CAD & Drafting practices and procedures, preferably CATIA V5+; familiarity with other CAD design packages preferred.
Proficiency in GD&T and dimensional annotation.
Experience with FEA process and tools desired (mechanical and thermal).
Use of PLM, or other Project Data Management tools for storage, archival, and revision control of output products.
Familiarity with OEM CAD Portals or Team Centers preferred.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent people skills, ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team.
Able to work with minimal supervision and to manage multiple priorities as project workload demands.
Training in IATF-16949, APQP, FMEA, DOE and VPDS structure and practice, as required.
