Kleinschmidt has an immediate opening for an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer in our Portland, Oregon office.
This position involves a combination of mechanical design responsibilities; typically dealing with unique design issues for hydroelectric turbines, water control gates, balance of plant equipment, or hydroelectric plant retrofit efforts at existing generating facilities. The selected candidate will work alongside our team of technical professionals who contribute their expertise to solve complex problems at various hydroelectric projects throughout the U.S. and Canada.
BSME with minimum of two (2) years of experience in mechanical engineering design.
Must be registered as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) and working towards Professional Engineer registration.
Experience with mechanical design of hydroelectric facilities or industrial powerplants strongly preferred but not required.
Knowledge of pumped system design and hydraulic calculations is strongly preferred.
Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software is preferred but not required.
Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD is required.
Knowledge of the finite element method and experience conducting finite element analyses using shell, solid and beam elements is strongly preferred.
Experience in machine design and production of contract drawing packages is required.
Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to work collaboratively with clients and co-workers in a dynamic consulting firm.
Can-do attitude, willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.
Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States and the ability to acquire authorization to work in Canada.
