This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Temp/Term Appt Authority to meet Critical Hiring Needs to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This temporary seasonal recruitment may be used to fill Park Ranger positions in Conchas Dam, NM . Please note these are full time seasonal work schedules that may generally be asked to work 6 months (or less) out of a year.
Answers visitors' questions requiring knowledge of a variety of facts, events, rules, regulations, and the park's natural characteristics.
Patrols recreation areas, camp areas, water areas, and picnicking facilities explaining fire, safety, sanitary, and other rules and regulations to park visitors to prevent violations.
Researches, develops and presents limited interpretive programs including: campfire programs; guided tours of the lake project and/or dam; talks and slide shows; and presentations to local schools and community organizations.
Assists with the creation or revision of interpretive materials such as pamphlets, handouts, exhibits, etc.
Participates in a variety of resources management projects designed to maintain and enhance the resources and to provide a quality natural environmental experience for the public.
Occasional travel - Business Travel (TDY) is approximately 20% of the time.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation ER-1130-2-422, dated 1 October 1991.
In possession of or the ability to acquire a state driver's license and a Corps of Engineers boat operator's license.
Incumbent is required to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.).
Shift work is required. Specifically, the ability to work nights and/or weekends depending on the needs of the project to which the employee is assigned.
Incumbent must receive a minimum of 24 hours of personal protection /unarmed self defense, situational evaluation and tactical communication training within two years of employment.
Incumbent must possess or be able to acquire first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and blood-borne pathogen training.
This position requires the incumbent to pass a drug test before assignment, and once assigned, being subject to unannounced random drug testing throughout the duration of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work as qualifying with specific examples such as park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
