The Computational Physics Group (CPG) of the Southwest Division (SWD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) in Albuquerque, NM, has an opportunity for an entry-level candidate to contribute to computer modeling and simulation (M&S) tool development, calculation performance and computational analysis for large Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. The successful applicant will perform software development and CFD computer simulations on local computing clusters and High Performance Computing (HPC) systems to support the development and use of these computer codes for a variety of applications.
They will work with a team of highly skilled software developers, engineers and scientists that leverage multidisciplinary backgrounds to provide innovative solutions to our customers. The programs impact national security and Department of Defense (DoD) mission areas.
Education and Security Requirements:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physics, engineering (mechanical, chemical or aerospace) or computer science
GPA of at least 3.0/4.0 for all degrees earned
Ability to obtain a security clearance, which requires US citizenship
Strong technical writing skills, and the ability to present technical material at conferences and at meetings with customers
Capacity to work in a team environment and collaborate with other engineers and scientists
Initiative to work with moderate supervision and set/achieve interim milestones towards a higher task objective; ability to prioritize efforts in a dynamic multi-tasking environment
Ability to summarize or describe progress or tasks in technical reports and develop technical presentations
Programming in languages such as C++, C, or Fortran
Manipulating data and presenting results in useful formats using tools such as Excel or MatLAB
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Desired Qualifications or Experience:
Experience with the following specific topics are considered strong pluses.
Experience with software configuration management tools (SVN, Git)
Experience with Visual Studio development platform
Working on Unix/Linux operating systems
Programming experience using scripting languages such as R or Python
Performing calculations using high-fidelity computational methods with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) codes
Years of Experience: 0 to 5 years
1 - 5 years: Programming in languages such as C++, C, or Fortran
1 - 5 years: Manipulating data and presenting results in useful formats using tools such as Excel or MATLAB.
1 - 5 years: Using Microsoft office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Bachelor of Science or better in Engineering or related field
