About You

You have experience selling automation products. You have at least five years of successful sales experience developing new business in the field of motion control. You are passionate about helping the customer and winning the business; you always make one more call. Ideally, you have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

You are proficient in motion control and automation, such as Programmable Logic Controllers, HMIs, Servo Motors and Drives, Stepper Motors and Drives, Precision Gear Boxes, Mechanical Actuators and Linear Modules, Sensors & I/O Devices, Pneumatics, Safety Devices, and AC/DC Motors and Variable Frequency Drives. You can apply your knowledge to translate any application’s performance requirements into specific drives and controls recommendations using mathematical sizing calculations and/or software tools.

You are a strong communicator. You can clearly communicate in all formats, and you are comfortable presenting complex technical information to a variety of people including those you’ve never met. You are confident in your communications with engineers and technical designers. You are persuasive and influential.

You are a self-starter. You are self-motivated and have the unique ability to manage your time wisely to maximize your success. You work well on your own and don’t require much oversight from your manager. You can be trusted to fully execute your responsibilities, even when you’re managing multiple projects and customer requests simultaneously.

You are curious. You are excited and passionate about new experiences and challenges. You are happiest when you visit a new customer and have the opportunity to explore their facility and ask questions about how they do business. You are inquisitive and are never satisfied.

You can troubleshoot technical problems and are determined to resolve the problem you face. You are resourceful and thrive in situations with multiple variables and constraints. You can provide a solution that demonstrates your technical capability to solve the customer problem.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

The Regional Automation Specialist role is dynamic and rewarding, allowing you to learn and grow every day through customer interaction and exposure to new products and solutions. Below is a partial list of some of the responsibilities of the role:

Sell automation products and services to selected accounts; manage the overall profitability of each Customer; determine customer needs and provide technical solutions to meet them
Deliver sales presentations and product training to Customers; recommend components and solutions to Customers
Assist in qualifying the match between Customer requirements and product capabilities
Eliminate sales obstacles through innovative and adaptive approaches
Create business plans to support sales forecast and Customer requirements; prospect and utilize market data to find new sales avenues
Support sales process by regularly accompanying other field sales people to Customer visits; assist with development and delivery of presentations to Customers; review all presentations to ensure consistency
Coordinate the activities of Inside Sales and Suppliers in order to meet Customer needs
Communicate regularly and effectively with regional sales team and Regional Vice President; assist with and participate as needed in sales meetings
Support and implement company strategies and initiatives
Coordinate Supplier visits, sales call schedule, and training for region; develop and maintain strong positive relationships with Suppliers
Maintain current technical expertise; provide project management oversight or assistance, and design support for Customers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typically the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some movement from area to area, lifting and transporting of items such as a laptop computer, books, and small parts. Position requires long periods of sitting while driving or riding as a passenger in an automobile. Must be able to move through customer sites, including warehouses, shipyards, oil field rigs, manufacturing facilities, etc. Must be able to effectively communicate using company-issued devices such as laptop, mobile phone, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the primary duties of the job, the employee is regularly exposed to various outdoor and indoor environments, including temperature variances, humidity, dust, noise, etc. Overnight travel may be required; frequency depends upon assigned sales region. Attending regular meetings, training and making sales calls via automobile or airplane is required. Work outside normal business hours is required from time to time.
