Ancestry is looking for an Associate Genealogist to join our team. This is an entry level professional position for General U.S./Southern/Canadian research with potential for growth in the organization for the right candidate. The Associate Genealogist works with Research Manager(s) to plan, research, document, and prepare client sessions. They assist in conducting research and analysis, perform clerical work, request and organize records, provide project updates, and write research reports as directed by the Research Manager(s) in support of the clients’ project goals. This position will focus predominantly on research in the U.S., Southern States and Canada. What You'll Do:
Conduct genealogical research, analysis, interpretation, source citation that aligns with client’s stated goals, and communicate findings through a research report. You will write periodic status updates and final narrative reports of your cumulative research findings.
Provide written research plans, updates and reports to the Research Manager. You will conduct.
Plan session from start to finish while working within budgetary and session timeline constraints.
Properly cite all sources, prepare abstract and reports and create and edit online trees.
Format and conduct preliminary proofing of journals and reports.
Accurately track time.
Complete or exceed a set number of research hours per month.
Who You Are:
Degree in Family History Research, English, History or related field, plus 2-5 years of professional genealogical research experience.
Advanced knowledge of General U.S. research. OR Southern States, OR Canada. methodological approaches and understanding of records from one or more of these areas.
Excellent genealogical problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite as well as various web-based tools.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage and prioritize several tasks simultaneously.
Self-starter with the desire and energy to achieve goals under tight deadlines.
