llmor Engineering Inc. is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer, Process & Tooling to support marine and motorsport operations in Plymouth, MI.
Areas of Responsibility
40% Hands-on Design & Engineering
Lead lean initiatives and process improvements for takt time, FTC, and 5S optimization
Scheme, design and draw tools, fixtures, and equipment.
Support machine shop/Manufacturing Center staff on the introduction of new products while continuously improving on existing.
Analyze and present data in a manner that represents Ilmor's standard of quality to the customer(s) and management.
40% Process & Quality
Ensure Ilmor's instrumentation, test equipment and manufacturing processes are capable and scalable by use of data and manufacturing measurement techniques
Continuously review our processes for productivity and efficiency gains.
Ensure adequate methods of operation are configured and documented via manufacturing and quality plans.
Create and maintain a tool library (fixtures, cutting tools, gauges) to enable efficient use of the equipment we have.
Engage in design and project reviews to ensure best practices, best value and manufacturability.
20% Vendor Decision Support
Engage in make/buy decisions, including ease and cost to manufacture.
Review vendor quotes for purchased components to verify costs proposals are acceptable.
Verify and audit external vendor processes to ensure capability and repeat-ability.
Lead the supply base technically, for root cause of poor productivity, repeat-ability or quality issues and engage with them in proposing and implementing solutions.
Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's Degree
5-7 years' experience
Demonstrable knowledge and design of machine tooling and fixturing
Motivated with a "can do" attitude
Self-sufficient and easily adaptable to an ever-changing scope
Strong communicator (written and verbal)
Well organized and understand how to prioritize
Must be able to support travel to shows, suppliers and our North Carolina manufacturing facility (15% travel: for 4-5 business days every ~6 weeks)
Masters' degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
Have led Lean initiatives and process improvements and optimization
Be abreast of the latest machining technology, test equipment, and industry trends
