We're hiring a Reactive Hazard Process Safety Leader to be based at our Baton Rouge, LA site. This a new position to support our continued growth that will focus on developing and leading a world-class Reactive Hazard program based on a technical foundations and thorough screening methodology. Initially you'll be involved with establishing and setting up an onsite lab, writing the SOPs and PHA’s, establish and conduct training and ultimately be the Program POC. Additional responsibilities include:
Participation and leading capital projects to acquire, install and maintain equipment required for operation of the Reactive Hazard program.
Evaluate processes for Reactive Hazards ensuring processes are thoroughly screened as per Corporate requirements, and assist teams in identifying applicable process streams, setting priorities and timelines for implementation.
Analyze available literature, determine thermodynamic properties, design experiments, interpret experimental results and ensure quality of results with the purpose of identifying safe operating limits
Generate and approve Reactive Hazard Evaluation Reports which document analysis results and serve as the basis for identifying and mitigating reactive chemistry risks
Actively communicate with all stakeholders regarding the methodology, execution, and results of Reactive Hazards Evaluation
Collaborate with Corporate Process Safety to fully integrate Reactive Hazards Evaluation into the Grace Process Safety Program and be accountable for Reactive Relief Design for the company through the effective use of kinetic and thermodynamic modelling
Develop methodology for estimation of physicochemical properties
Represent Grace at relevant conferences and technical organizations
Stay up-to-date with new developments in reactive hazard evaluation methodology, thermodynamics, calorimetry, and reactive relief design.
Deep understanding of the interplay between thermodynamic and kinetic effects in producing the observed calorimetry results
Development of computer programs to model calorimetry data
Proficient in thermodynamics, particularly in the use of equations of state and physical property estimation
Familiar with linear and non-linear regression techniques, and other numerical methods for modeling data
Able to work effectively with colleagues across the company and across divisions
Experience with mentoring/supervising other engineers or interns in Reactive Hazards Evaluation
Strong written, oral and presentation communication skills
BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
5+ years of experience in Reactive Hazard Evaluation
Chemical process industry experience with a strong knowledge of unit operations and process safety practices
Thorough familiarity with a variety of chemistries (organic, organometallic, inorganic)
Experience with calorimetry testing, including design and operation of experiments as well as the interpretation of results
