General Position Description
Alden is seeking an engineer with a strong background and interest in hydraulic engineering for a position in its Portland, Oregon office. The successful candidate will work closely with Alden’s Hydraulic Modeling, Environmental and Engineering services, and Structural Engineering Groups and will interact directly with clients in the Pacific Northwest.
The Hydraulic Modeling group uses a combination of laboratory scale-model testing, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and numerical modeling to solve a wide range of civil engineering flow-related problems. The Environmental and Engineering Services group supports clients in designing and evaluating fish passage at dams and hydropower projects and fish protection at water intakes.
The Structural Engineering Group works closely with hydraulic engineers for the design and evaluation of hydraulic structures. Our primary customers are in municipal water supply and treatment and power generation. Hydropower and flood protection related projects include upgrades and modifications of existing dams, spillways, and design support for fish passage facilities. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with a dedicated multidisciplinary team on truly one-of-a kind projects.
A successful candidate will work on projects involving a variety of civil hydraulic structures. Work may include the following: Layout, analysis, and design of hydraulic structures; literature reviews and analysis of data; and field studies. Work may also include preparing design and construction documents. The position will provide the opportunity to be involved with all phases of hydraulic engineering projects including: planning, design, analysis, and presentation.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
Ten years of experience
Strong background in Hydraulic Engineering
Excellent oral and written skills
Independent and motivated worker
Project Management experience
Project experience in the layout and design of hydraulic structures
Experienced with Government Contracting
