Position Title: Maintenance Technician II / Instrumentation Specialist
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Status: Regular Full-time
Location: Midland, MI
Maintenance Technician II / Instrumentation Specialist has vast maintenance responsibility and accountability for equipment uptime and reliability (including electronic circuitry, instrumentation, controls, mechanical, electrical, pipe fitting). Responsibilities also include providing maintenance support to our instrumentation and calibration processes. Safely troubleshoot, calibrate, repair or replace faulty instrumentation. Create standard work practices that provide assistance to team members when troubleshooting valve repairs. Supporting all of our production areas. Under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager the role delivers hands on trouble shooting, repairing, and maintaining equipment and systems to an empowered, work process driven, manufacturing organization. Applicants must feel comfortable in multi-trade position and expectations.
Work with engineers and equipment suppliers during design, start-up, debug, and commissioning for new equipment to optimize product performance (including mechanical, instrumentation, controls, etc.).
Experience with 4-20 ma instrumentation, 3 phase motors and controls.
Collaborate directly with Operations Technicians to troubleshoot, repair and improve equipment and operations processes.
Set up standard test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests in order to evaluate performance and reliability of designs.
Perform preventive maintenance activities as required. (This will include instrument calibration, lubrication, replacing wear/consumable parts, inspection for wear, replace filters, calibrate and or align equipment, etc.)
Perform predictive analysis / maintenance. (This will include test equipment, vibration analysis, thermal signature analysis, mean time between failure, lubricant analysis, etc.)
Perform corrective and emergency maintenance activities as required.
Lead continuous improvement pertaining to our equipment uptime and reliability. Lead specific projects to drive continuous improvement.
Install, troubleshoot, repair mechanical and electrical instrumentation.
Troubleshoot, repair and calibrate control vales (Rosemount and/or foreign manufacturer).
Perform calibrations on all types of industrial pressure, vacuum, flow and temperature devices.
Collaborate with engineering to determine root cause and perform failure analysis.
Maintain needed documentation to support our instrumentation qualification, maintenance, and reliability.
Ensure that all work / maintenance is performed per XALT Energy’s safety guidelines and per the guidelines of applicable regulatory agencies
Minimum of 5 years of maintenance manufacturing experience (instrumentation, electronics, controls, mechanical, electrical, pipe fitting)
Learn and successfully operate, troubleshoot, and maintain various semi and highly automated equipment
Must have good technical skills to learn and grow, keeping current with new automation and technology
Demonstrated experience in root cause analysis
Able to work with PLCs (programmable logic controllers, Mitsubishi PLC’s preferable)
Experience with LEL, O2 Sensors, Flow Meters, Valves and Positioners, RTD, Rosemount Wireless interface and Absolute DP transmitters.
Has knowledge of 4-20 ma controls.
Strong computer skills including MS office.
Be able to work non-day shift and schedule that would include afternoons, nights and/or weekends
Two year associate degree in a technical field or equivalent strongly preferred documentation can be substituted with years of experience
Licensed Journeyman a plus (but not required)
Flexible to come in on a non-scheduled shift to support any major maintenance issue.
Attend engineering and project meetings as needed.
