The Design Engineer will support Business Development by design and engineering of data, voice and telecommunications structured cabling infrastructure projects. This position does require a RCDD Certification. In addition, will assist with cost estimating including all the necessary materials, labor, and engineering required to deliver a profitable project which meets or exceeds the customers’ requirements. This position requires coordination with Business Development and Project Managers to assist in the transition from design to implementation.
As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and implementation of systems into new or existing commercial infrastructure for large scale (1M+) new commercial construction projects including mission critical data centers and structured cabling projects. This position requires individuals who are willing to work as a team to deliver a successful design and profitable projects.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accompany sales upon request on initial site visits to help conduct a customer’s needs analysis.
Provide pre-sales functional and/or technical support for developing opportunities.
Responsible for making engineering judgments and developing engineering plans and designs.
Assist the sales in constructing a preliminary scope of work (SOW) noting system capabilities and limitations based on customer’s stated objectives.
Develop and provide sales with a complete bill of materials (BOM) based on the agreed SOW.
Perform engineering activities supporting the design, development and optimizations of the infrastructure projects.
Provides complete project engineering and estimating labor.
Work in conjunction with estimating staff, or independently, to prepare estimates with a detailed review of plans, specifications and bid form: gather or develop data such as scope of work, subcontractor quotes, floor plans, etc. to produce customer proposals.
Recommends vendors and materials to obtain best solution, most competitive price, and proper lead-times.
Contribute to product selection research, configuration standards, and best practices
Create rough system flow diagrams based on the BOM, provide final design reviews and release CAD to complete construction drawings.
Ensures timely completion of and meets bid schedules and deadlines.
Acts as liaison between operations and sales: meet with sales, project management and operations to effectively transition projects and streamline communications.
Work through change orders as they develop throughout the project, making any necessary adjustments to project documents.
Establishes and maintains working relationships with vendors and subcontractors.
Obtain knowledge on other technologies, as directed by customer demand.
Help educate our sales teams on our products and services.
Travel: The individual in this role should be able and willing to travel as required by E2.
AAS or BS in Construction Management or Construction Engineering
BICSI Certifications preferred
Minimum of OSHA 30, OSHA 510/500 preferred
Familiarity with all major cable manufactures installation standards and testing criteria including, but not limited to Corning, Panduit, Belden, Uniprise, Systimax, Siemon
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with design, engineering and estimating of large scale (1M+) new commercial construction projects including mission critical data centers and structured cabling projects.
Structured Cabling/Low Voltage industry experience required.
2019 Auto CAD experience
Revit - BIM360 experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of low voltage technology, architecture, fiber design and deployment requirements.
Knowledge of data infrastructure industry including technology, quality and safety standards.
Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.) and MS Project.
Proficient with Auto CAD.
Ability to create CAD drawings, including one-lines, floorplans, details, elevations, etc.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and scheduling work assignments.
Knowledge of the PMBOK Guides and Standards.
Knowledge of business practices and processes including basic accounting.
Excellent Customer Service skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting.
Ability to understand and follow standard operating policies and procedure.
Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance.
Effective performance management skills.
Extensive knowledge of safety protocols and procedures.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The standard work environment for this position is an indoors business office and construction environment. Ability to use a computer and/or hand tools while sitting or standing for extended periods of time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk or hear, use hands, stoop, kneel, bend, rotate, push, pull, reach with hands and arms on intermittent to regular basis daily. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet. The employee may be required to work in tight, confined spaces. The employee must demonstrate regular and on-time attendance. There could be a requirement of occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
